We're What????

In case you hadn't guessed from previous posts, our faith is a major part of our lives. Our children have attended church with us since they became our family 5 years ago. We have attended XXXX Lutheran Church, our children have recently started attending XXXX Lutheran School. We have had discussions about how we are Lutheran, which is a type of Christian, and how while our faith may differ from others, we still respect them and their beliefs. They have attended Sunday School, and our daughter has completed the first year of confirmation studies.

So tonight's homework was on Martin Luther and the Reformation. The last question on the sheet asked, "Someone asks you, 'What is a Lutheran?' or 'What is the Lutheran heritage?' How would you answer that person?"

Since this type of question confuses her, I am in the habit of rephrasing in a way I think she will understand. I asked her, "How is what we Lutherans believe different from, say, Baptists or Catholics or Methodists?"

She looked at me, completely stunned, and said, "We're Lutheran??!?"
