This morning in the car, DD announced, "Alissa said I can be the backup plan." Alissa is one of the leaders at PK, where the kids go on their day off. DD typically starts in the middle of the story, and we have to figure out the beginning and end.
I asked what she meant. "I can be the back up plan if Megan (another leader) can't make it."
Oh, you mean if she needs help as a leader you can help out?
"No, as the maid of honor at her wedding. If Megan can't make it, I can be her backup plan!"
So I had to gently explain that Alissa was just kidding, and she should not expect an urgent call to fill in as Maid of Honor. She took it well, but you could tell it was a bit of a letdown.
Sigh... such is life with a literal thinker.

I totally understand...my darling daughter also is literal, and oh, how much I've learned from her perspective!
