Forget what the calendar says - the official first day of summer was last night. That was when I saw the first clouds of fireflies in our backyard/prairie. This has to be one of my favorite things about where we live - I could watch those calming, blinking lights for hours!
For a California girl, this is still a novelty. I wanted to see them so badly as a child, but they don't live in that part of the world. I didn't see one until my early 20's (and that one was dead - did you know if you smear a dead one on a dog, the fur will glow?). Now I have a fireworks show in my very own backyard ;-)
