My husband has been involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters for many years, and we still stay in close contact with his first two "Littles" and their families, even though they have aged out of the program. These two have each had many challenges in their lives, stemming from FASD - one case confirmed, the other suspected. Their choices in life have been marked by impulsivity and poor understanding of consequences (among other things), and Jeff has spent many years trying to help guide them in a better direction.
We heard this story from Little #1's mom yesterday, and it was such a typical FASD moment that we had to laugh (and share)....
Little #1 (age 26) finally had a steady job. He was on his way to work one morning recently, having managed to get himself up and on the way on time (no small accomplishment). Along the way, as he crossed the river he thought, "Hey, fishing!" He immediately turned around, went home, got his fishing gear, and headed for a day of fun, work completely forgotten.
Well, so much for that job....

Classic FASD moment! So glad you are telling your stories, my friend! ~Kari

I can so see my daughter doing that.
I have three sons who DID that exact thing, ooops, one still does things like that and he's 37! I look forward to your blog!
